Between the 25th of June and 2nd of July of 2021, our researchers left the land and wandered through the ocean waters between Espinho and Póvoa de Varzim, 2 to 12 nautical miles from the coast.

Even if the journey was a bit tricky at times, with an ocean that is not always nice, our team was able to achieve great results such as collecting oceanographic profiles of the water column, acoustic records, water samples and meeting with a number of dolphin species!

Our researchers accomplished:

18 sampling stations to collect several oceanic biological, chemical and physical data;

14 samples for microplastics and plankton monitorization;

16 sightings of 3 cetacean species – common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), Rissos’s (Grampus griseus) and bottlenose (Tursiops truncatus).
